Thompson Speedway Starts Back-to-Back Wednesday Night Action with Tripoint Showdown on August 7th

Barre, VT & Naples, ME — A pair of back-to-back Wednesday night racing is ready to greet Southern New England race fans at Thompson Speedway starting this Wednesday, August 7. The Tripoint Showdown will once again feature the five track championship divisions that call the Thompson highbanks home as one final test and tune before next week’s exciting program where they join both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the New England Supermodified Series!

The Thompson Sunoco Modifieds are preparing their rides for the lone 50-lap sprint in the month of August. Point leader, and three-time winner in 2024, Jon Puleo will be the one to beat in the $3,000-to-win, 50-lap Tripoint Showdown on Wednesday. Puleo currently holds a twenty-seven point lead over Danny Cates and leading rookie Isaiah Newcomb. Cates will be among those looking to nab their first win in the headline division, along with Josh Carey and Zach Leone while Keith Rocco is looking to return to the top!

Following his first win of the season, former Thompson Speedway track champion Brian Tagg is leading the Late Model standings over defending champ Nick Johnson. Even after a hard lick with the outside retaining wall last time out, Ryan Morgan is only six points out of the money. The top three and fourth-place chaser, Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) finalist Derek Gluchacki have split the four races this season, speaking to the competition of the popular division. Could the first repeat winner stand tall during the Tripoint Showdown on Wednesday or will another step up against the veterans?

As with the Late Models, the popular Street Stock division has yet to have a repeat winner in four events! Al Stone III, Jason Chicolas, ‘Leadfoot’ Larry Barnett and Ryan Waterman have each taken one win on the season so far with Chicolas leading a tied Barnett and Stone by 16 points on the leaderboard. The Eden Rafferty bonuses have only increased the competition, with everyone seeing dollar signs at the finish line!

Speaking of bonuses, it was announced on Friday that PASS and ACT officials will increase the AZ Roofing SK Light Modified purses to a $1,000-to-win format for both of the upcoming Wednesday night programs in August! So far the division has been all Tyler Chapman with the Ellington native sweeping all four events so far this season. With the increased purse on the line, a Nick Hovey, Meghan Fuller or John O’Sullivan might just have the added intensity to take one for the wins column!

As with the AZ Roofing SK Lights, the Mini Stocks have been deep in the pockets of defending champion Jarred Roy. Roy has maintained a four-for-four win streak in the mighty four-cylinder division. Ryan Pomposelli, former champion Kevin Moore and Rick LaFlesh are among the top candidates looking to bump Roy off the top of the charts on Wednesday.

Thompson Speedway returns to Wednesday night racing action this Wednesday, August 7 for the Tripoint Showdown 50-lap main event for the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds. The AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds gun for a $1,000-to-win increased purse, plus Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks to make it a five-division card with a 6:00pm Post Time on Wednesday, August 7. Grandstands will open at 4:00pm with adult general admission set at $25, kids 12-6 for $10 with children five and under free!
