Rained Out, Field Set For Sunday’s Whelen
Modified Finale
Championship Contenders Will Start On
Front Row
THOMPSON,
Conn. (Oct. 24, 2009) – Due to persistent rain, there will be no on-track activity on Saturday
for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at the World
Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart at
Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.
The Whelen Modified Tour was scheduled to practice and qualify
for the season finale on Saturday, but with rain at the speedway, the starting
lineup for Sunday’s 150-lap race will now be set by the rulebook. Practice is
scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Just 26 points
separate current championship points leader Donny Lia
from second place Ryan Preece heading into the last
event of the season. With qualifying now rained out, the two will start
side-by-side in the front row on Sunday.
Defending
champion Ted Christopher and Todd Szegedy will make
up the second row for Sunday’s green flag and the third row will consist of
Rowan Pennink and Mike Stefanik.
Christopher
still has a mathematical shot at repeating as Whelen
Modified Tour champion, but Lia can clinch his second
crown in three years by finishing fifth or better on Sunday. With Preece so close behind, however, there is still much left
to be decided.
The World
Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart is
scheduled to go green on Sunday at approximately 3:45 p.m.
